I’m lucky enough to call Vermont my home base for summer and fall each year. The Vermont fall foliage is indescribable and must be experienced to fully appreciate its beauty. So much so that every year, over 1.5 million people travel to Vermont just to view the foliage. This – for a state with only 600,000 residents – is remarkable. Sweeping views like those above (Stowe, VT) are breathtaking, as are the views simply walking along my street.
Last week, I was able to take an early morning walk and stopped again and again to admire the view and to take pictures of the peak foliage in my neighborhood.
And then I looked down.
And saw one perfect leaf. And then another.
The overall effect of the foliage was so magnificent that I hadn’t noticed the individual leaves. Having seen them, I went out the next morning specifically to look at the leaves.
Remember to look at the leaves in your organization. Appreciate the 10,000 things that are done right every day that make the entire organization function and the people behind those actions. It’s too easy for us to get caught up in dashboards and trends, problems and crisis.
Without the leaves, there is no foliage.
